RED SPEAR SPROUTING BROCCOLI
This is a biennial broccoli that has small, individual, purple side shoots - it does not have a large broccoli head like traditional broccoli.
Start indoors
- for a summer harvest, start in early spring. Harvest in 2-3 months.
- for a fall harvest, start indoors in late spring and transplant out in July. Harvest just before the first frost.
- to overwinter in mild winters (zones 6-9), start indoors in June and transplant out in early August for a harvest the following February to May. Zones 5-6 will need protection such as frost cloth or a hoop house.
